Can anything be as classy and feminine as a maxi skirt? I don't think so. I've spent most of my fashion conscious life thinking I was much too short to possibly wear a maxi skirt, but you know what? I don't care anymore! I am no longer letting my height affect my fashion choices, because I am sick of missing out. So, last weekend I bought a beautiful black sheer maxi skirt from Trims which I absolutely love. I'm dying to pair it with my chunky pom-pom knitted jumper and fur trimmed black boots. In celebration of my new found love I put together a palette of the next maxi skirts I wish to buy. Oh, the excitement!

Shopping Around Adelaide: Lovisa

As Jacqueline mentioned in her fashion question segment, she loves Lovisa for unique jewellery pieces. Even though Lovisa is only newly opened it has already been a smash hit, pulling in the crowds with their crazy rings and pretty much every other piece of jewellery you could possibly want. They only have two stores open so far in Adelaide, one in the Elizabeth Shopping Centre and one in Rundle Mall, although I have no doubt they will open more judging by their success. I have only been to the one in Rundle Mall but I was overwhelmed by the choices of rings (since rings are my biggest weakness). One whole side of the wall has a shelf with beautiful ring designs, everything I have been looking for. Double rings, triple rings, gem rings, animal head rings, worded rings and any other kind of ring you can think of. Then there's the rest of the shop, decked out with feathered headresses, gorgeous necklaces, bracelets, brooches, there's really no need for me to go on i'm sure you get the idea that they have everything by now. Anyway, to get back on track, all of their jewellery is unlike anything you'll find at other stores AND cheap enough that even I can afford it (that's pretty darn cheap!) that's at least worth a visit, right?

Jacqueline's Palette

Jacqueline

1. How would you describe your personal style?
Free spirited, hippy and colourful. I love free flowing clothes, anything bright & lots of unique pieces of jewellery.

2. What's your number one wardrobe staple?
In winter; my purple eco friendly, groundhog boots & my just jeans thick, long cardigan/jacket. they both keep me warm! stockings is a must, too! in summer; my long floral skirt with a belt and anything flowing.

3. What's your favourite trend right now?
I don't follow the trends but i'm pretty sure ponchos were in at one stage? i have one and i love it! it's good how all the old stuff is coming back like ponchos and flares.

4. Do you think it's important to wear fashionable clothes?
Absolutely not! if you feel comfortable in your own skin and you are confident in your own style, there should be no need to 'follow the fashion'. however, it's a form of self expression so i do believe it is important to find what suits your personality and your body type, it needs to be appropriate and co-ordinated. whether it is the 'latest fashion' is completely unimportant!

5. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Myself. and gossip magazines. i read a lot of famous and nw and if there's something i like, i'll try to find it but to be honest, when i go shopping, if i see something i like & it fits, i couldn't care less if everyone is wearing it or no one is wearing it. i tend to gain my inspiration from a spiritual perspective. flowy, colourful, unique.  feathers, contrasting colours.

6. Favourite Adelaide clothing store?
I don't have a favourite one. i go into any store i wish. i love sportsgirl for the latest fashion, lovisa for the most unique jewellery & supre for the staples only, lol, such as singlets and slips. anything and everything!..

Shopping Around Adelaide: Target

Okay, so I may have snobbed Target for clothing choices in the past, but I went there the other day and they really aren't that bad! Their Miss Shop department actually has some pretty cute pieces. Also I bought some suede oxford shoes which I love, and they have a pair of boots that look EXACTLY like the ones I got from Miss Gladys (for a hell of a lot cheaper, too). Oh, and they have such a cute underwear selection! So I guess the lesson here is: don't ignore the department stores.

Biker Jackets

You just need to open a magazine to see celebrities and models pairing biker jackets with girly pieces. It's not a hard trend to pull off, as long as you remember that those light brown obviously faux leather jackets worn with leggings is NOT okay. I'm not saying that you have to have a real leather jacket, actually I'm against real leather, but that doesn't mean you can't get a gorgeous faux leather one. I just bought one that looks just like this picture from Myers which was on sale for only $70. I can't wait for Spring so I can wear it with floral dresses and maxi skirts.

Tash's Palette

Tash

1. How would you describe your personal style?
I can't, because it depends entirely on my mood. Sometimes it's super cute and girly, sometimes a bit harder or edgier.

2. What is your number one wardrobe staple?
My black skinny jeans. Duhh.
3. What is your favourite trend right now
?Probably leather biker jackets because they're so versatile and comfy.
4. Do you think wearing fashionable clothes is important?
Depends on what "fashionable" means. If it means what's trendy at the time, then no. If it means what a person finds attractive at the time to themselves, then yes, because clothes are a good way to express ones self.
5. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Honestly, I don't. I just pull stuff together and see if I like it.
6. What is your favourite Adelaide clothing store?
Probably Dangerfield and Midwest, but sometimes I see some awesome stuff in unexpected places like Dotti and even Target. (TARGET FTW)..

Leggings - The big debate

leggings

So we've all heard it - "Leggings are not pants!" but come on, they're so comfortable you can't expect me to not wear them as pants. Granted some girls just shouldn't.. I personally don't like seeing your hips peering over the top of your leggings or your cameltoe for that matter. Which brings me to say - You may only wear leggings as pants if you follow the rules. Rule #1. I cannot stress this enough, NO G-STRINGS POKING OVER THE TOP. Obvious and hopefully common sense. Rule #2. If you wear a short jumper or crop top with your leggings you remind me of those 15 year old school girls prancing around the plaza, looking smug about all their young flesh showing to the rest of the world. You look quite skanky to me and i'm sure the 40 year old men oogling you would agree with me (except they like it and I am disgusted). Rule #3. If you're going to wear those pretty yet slightly see through patterned leggings you have to wear a top long enough to cover your butt and crotch. If I'm out shopping, I have most likely just eaten, and seeing you and how you obviously don't care that people can see your underwear quite frankly makes me feel sick. Rule #4. I do not classify jeggings as suitable attire for any occasion, and neither should you. You can make leggings look classy, girls.

Sass Bide slimming legging, €143
Alexander McQueen legging, £570

1. How would you describe your personal style?
I believe in making trash into beauty, I like taking something ugly and styling it up my own way (especially with matching makeup). On the other hand it depends where and what the occasion is and also mood, very strong believer in dressing appropriately when required and sexy when it suits me.

2. What is your number one wardrobe staple?
Would have to go with leggings, they go with everything and once again can be styled up your own way.

3. What is your favourite current trend?
Have to go with heels, trendy and tasty..

4. Do you think that wearing fashionable clothes is important?
Absolutly! most people have beautiful inner beauty, so why not show it on the outside too?..

5. Where do you get your inspiration?
My makeup, i see a dress and think hmm that would go well with my smokey eyes.

6. What is your favourite clothing store in Adelaide?
At the moment im gonna go with ice, theres all sorts of clothes in there. Casual, dress, appropriate and sexy. whatever ya want!..

Shade your face.

I am constantly on the hunt for a good pair of sunglasses, and since I'm not rolling in the money I hit the chain stores. Some chain stores have such horrible quality sunglasses that you're forever adjusting them to sit properly or they're so tight you have a headache within half an hour. Two stores I've found has cute and good quality sunnies are Sportsgirl and Forever New. I have one pair of sunglasses which I got from Sportsgirl about three years ago and they've only just broken, which is pretty good considering how poorly I treated them! They fit my face perfectly and they will be sorely missed. So now my search becomes frantic as the only other pair I could find stashed at the back of my wardrobe were my Dangerfield wayfarer style, which I have worn to death. I'm thinking of searching the Miss Shop department at Myers because the last time I was there (buying an awfully warm woolen collared leather jacket) I saw a lovely blue pair which I deeply regret not buying.

Shopping around Adelaide: Dangerfield

If you love alternative clothes and lots of leopard print then you'll love this store. Located on Rundle St, In the Adelaide City Myer Centre and in the Tea Tree Plaza Myer Centre, they stock brands such as Black Friday and Princess Highway. Another reason to go is the incredibly cute accessories and knick-knacks. Did you love the hamburger phone you saw in the movie Juno? Well here's the place to get it. Are you looking for a pair of floral patterned stockings? Well, they have them. Or what about a top hat, just for the hell of it? Yup, Dangerfield has them too.
